Membership
There are two membership levels: Alpha (full) and
Beta (associate).
Alpha membership is open to trans men/msaculine people, and masculine
gender outlaws who are not members of any other batch patch levi/leather
or bear club. If you are interested in pledgeing into the club, and
becoming a full member, you must attend two annual meetings within one
year. One meeting is to establish a relationship with the club, and
for us to get to know each other. The second is hopefully when you will
get patched into the club. The club reserves the right to extend, shorten,
and or terminate pledgeships if it so chooses.
Beta membership is open to anyone trans or non-trans who wishes
to show support for trans male/masculine people, and masculine gender
outlaws. People interested in becoming Beta members are encouraged to
attend a La Garou sponsored event.
Dues & Fees
Dues for Alpha members are $50 a year payable at either annual meeting,
or mailed to our post office box.
An initiation fee of $15 is payable by all Cubs upon their entry into the pledge
class.
Dues for Beta members are a one time payment of $25.

PLEASE READ EVERTHING THAT FOLLOWS!
La Garou
is always interested in talking to people about becoming a member. It
is true that we restrict our membership to trans men/masculine people,
and masculine gender outlaws. Anyone who was labeled female at birth,
or born intersexed and raised female, but identifies as either a man,
or has a masculine gender identity, and whose daily life is lived that
way, is welcome to talk to us about becoming a cub.
We would like to ask people who have just begun their gender journey,
be they at the very begining stages of transition, or coming to terms
with their gender identity and what that means for their family, friends,
and signifigant others, that you refrain from adding the pressure of
being a pledge into that mix. We believe that anyone who has just started
that journey needs time to settle into that identity, and not have our
process get in the way of any emotional upheavals that come from the
newness of your journey.
For those of you who feel comfortable, and have been on your gender
journey long enough to be confident in it, we ask that you do some very
specific things to become a cub. The first thing to consider is that
becoming a cub to the club means that you have a desire to be in service
to the club, have a desire to be an active member in the leather community,
and that volunteering and social interaction are highly interesting
to you.
If you have established that what was in the above paragraph fits your
interests, then you can consider taking the next steps. Joining our
yahoo group, and joining our Fetlife group will help you get connected
to the club. You can then read past discussions, ask questions, and
find out more about the club and the people who support the club. (See
the link to the chat groups below.)
The next thing you can do is email the club account (lagarou@hotmail.com),
and let us know that you would like to become a cub. If we receive an
letter of intent from you, you should be prepared to have phone conversations
as well as receive emails from anyone who is a full member of the club.
As is stated above and in the bylaws you must attend a national meeting
for the club to be put under consideration to become a cub. Then you
have to attend a subsequent meeting to finish the pledge process, and
receive your backpatch. Right now CampOUT is the national meeting to
go to. Because we are a live, real time group, you should see this as
a process of becoming a more active member of the leather community.
Anyone who would like to be accepted as a cub, and wants to go through
a pledge process will be allowed to attend CampOUT for free. Because
you are coming for free you will have to take a volunteer position at
CampOUT, and will be expected to work 6-8 hours a day while there. This
is your chance to show the club that you are dedicated to being an active
member, and putting just as much energy into the club as we do. Additionally
you will need to bring your pledge application, and application fee
with you to CampOUT in order to be considered.
If you get accepted as a cub your pledge process will be similar to
other pledges, but there will never be an instance when two pledge processes
are exactly the same. We like to treat people as individuals, and know
that not everyone has the same opportunities in every area. If there
is no leather bar in your town, or if there is not even much of a leather
community, your process would be entirely different from someone in
an area with a leather bar and several healthy clubs. We just want everyone
to understand that pledge processes are not like getting a job or a
degree, there is no set process, and what it again boils down to is
your interest to serve and be an active member in the leather community.
We hope
to hear from you soon!
